Nancy, My Endless Summer was planted in Spring 04 in zone 5 (western Connecticut). It bloomed all summer long, and made it through the winter with no protection. It broke dormancy earlier than any other hydrangeas I have (macrophylla, PG, lacecaps, etc.) and has been blooming profusely again this summer in a partly sunny site. We've had a very dry (about 6 inches less than normal rainfall) and hot (29 days over 90 degrees) season. Right now it has multiple blooms competing for attention near a callicarpa that is breathtaking, a combination that's working better than I had ever hoped. I was so pleased with this plant's performance that I purchased 6 additional ones this summer for other places on the property. All have fared well, however, as new plantings, I did give them some supplemental watering to get established. I might also add that "Lady in Red" hydrangea which I got at the 2004 GWA meeting also came through the winter with no protection and this summer without skipping a beat. Since I planted it so late and it was so small, it didn't develop flower buds in 2004, so no flowers this season. I'm really excited about what I'm hoping it does for the garden in 2006.
