Thanks so much Jeff-- I'll try google...
Taking the meter out several times a day won't tell you how much light the area receives during the whole day... cumulative figure. You'd be guessing...and since the light changes at least weekly in the course of the season you would go mad trying to get it straight......whereas if there was some sort of light meter, like a rain gauge receptacle, it would take some of the guess work out of siting plants when the surrounding trees cast shadows differently at various hours.....

A camera light meter can be taken out to the area several times a day
and you can take the average reading. I will try and find the chart i
have that correlates foot candles to meter readings if you can't find
it on google.  I am a bit out of the loop for the next few days....
