I went outside in the rain this morning to check on mine. There are three
flower buds that are in good shape and one that is flopped over. The stem
felt quite weak so I think if this rain ever lets up I will cut that one
off. Although I have had blooms for about a month, none of them have opened
up. Did anyone else notice the length of time from bud to bloom?
My purple one right behind it has just started showing flower buds in the
past week but they are growing much faster than the orange ones.
I guess only a true flower nut would go out in the pouring rain to check on
a plant but I am anxious to see it bloom.
On another note my second Beaumontia grandiflora germinated today. I now
have two in peat pots. Does anyone have any experience growing these? I have
heard they do not survive in pot culture and would like some first hand
information.
I had a nice flush of roses about two weeks ago. This week The Prince,
William Shakespeare 2000 and Old Blush China are blooming. However the roses
are much smaller than I expected, possibly because it is their first season
here.
My Wisteria 'Amethyst Falls' is also showing signs of buds. I am really
surprised as I just planted it about two weeks ago. When it arrived from
Wayside Gardens it was in a dormant state. I am just hoping it survives the
winter here.
My Heliconia are also beginning to grow - finally! I was getting a bit
worried about them. The gingers and orchids were showing signs of life over
two months ago but the heliconia were just sitting there. I don't know if
any of them will flower this year but I am anxious to see what happens.
I also ordered those golden podded peas from Seed Savers. I am happy to say
when I went out this morning my fence is covered with golden pods! Some will
be for me and some will go to our local food pantry!
Well, I think that is enough of an update for me.
Thanks,
Sheri
