Fran and all,
Wooley Adelgid is rampent here on Long Island. I
have 22 hemlocks planted in a row, 6' between each one. They are about 40' tall
and have no branches on the bottom 1/2. It's the stupidest looking thing you
ever saw.
That is until you look at the other side of the
property line and see 460' of spruce trees planted single file, almost 100 of
them, all bare on the bottom 2/3's. Mother nature removes a few for us every
year, I think I should have married a lumberjack!
The eastern red cedars though are magnificent.
Loaded with birds nests at this time of year. In late winter they almost bow
down as huge flocks of birds eat the little blue berries.
