A quick thought: sometimes it is not enough to get
a shrub with edible bird bits. It needs to be situated to suit the needs of the
birds who eat it. For example, Swoopers like to have a clear approach to their
dinner table. If you plant a desirable tidbit in a mixed shrub border, you might
find the fruit remains untouched until winter when all leaves have fallen away
thus creating a clear visual approach.
