If you are growing just a few beets, you can soak them in warm water
overnight before you plant them--plant them straight out of the soaking
water. I sometimes add liquid seaweed or compost tea to the soaking
water, but that doesn't seem to matter as much as making certain that
they are soaked.

What's your favorite variety (varieties) of beets and what do you do to
insure even germination? I have more misses in my beet rows than any
other
vegetable. Anyone tried growing sugar beets?
