Great! I will keep the list posted about the SRH
webmaster list.
The other audience
question (which I didn't address) is browser compatibility.
Bandwidth aside, what browsers are used by your target audience: IE 4/5/6/7, Netscape 4/5/6/7, Firefox 1.5/2.0,
etc.? Thankfully you shouldn't have to deal with AOL's integrated
browser (which ought to offer free pain reliever
pills to web developers), but there may be compatibility issues with
local/regional ISPs of which I am not aware. Then, are you going to require any plugins? This
could be Flash, video (Windows Media, QuickTime, Flash Video, etc.), or other
"rich media" content that has its own version requirements. Also, you may want to use a scripting framework
like jQuery that has specific browser
requirements. All things to
consider.
On a related note: do
you know of any browser statistics for developing countries? I don't, but
I wish I did! One aspect of the SRH webmaster discussion group could be
the pooling of web tracking data of localized web sites to help figure this
out. Or maybe someone has already done this, and I'm not aware of
it. (that would be cool!)

you for the input you gave me on my previous question. Secondly, although
we discuss mainly technically and connectivity issues, I am not opposed to
sharing development and web related issues. If you are interested in
creating a separate group, I definitely would like to join in. I can also
recruit a lot of people in my organization since we do a lot of web app/site
development. Jojo From:

Behalf Of Tor de Vries Hello
everyone... Are any
of you aware of online discussion groups specifically for webmasters working in
the SRH field? I've poked around online, and there are a lot of webmaster
lists (such as the one at NTEN) but I don't see one specifically for SRH.
Think of it as the web design/development version of GRHITS. I don't think
GRHITS itself is appropriate, because many IT topics are not web-related (and
many web topics are not IT-related). If you
know of one, let me know. If not, however, would anyone be interested in
participating in one? I think SRH-related sites face some unique issues
compared to other sites (corporate or NPO), and I also think that organizations
in this sector might benefit from mutual agreements about online assets (even
simple things, like how our sites link to each other). If you know someone
who might be interested, please forward this to them. Earlier
today, Bill Lester suggested to me that NPOKI might be a good host for such
a group. So we've got an idea, and we've got a location, now do we have
any interest? Let me
know what you think. Thanks. Regards, Tor -- Tor
