Ok I think I may be past this problem but I could be wrong. I have my
linux server connecting to one sybase9 server. However I cannot get
more than one connection to Sybase at one time. I need 9 of them. The
problem lies with the server name in the odbc.ini file. It is using this
as the database name and not the server name and since all 9 databases
are named the same you can only connect to one of them at the time.

You should be able to set the TDSHOST environment variable to override
the actual host in the freetds.conf entry. So, you'd set that 9 times,
once before each connection is made. See
http://freetds.org/userguide/envvar.htm

It's ugly but it should work. Maybe Frediano or JKL has a more elegant
solution though..
