The LTLIBOBJS hack in our configure.in is now expressly forbidden by
autoconf (since it uses LIBOBJS directly). The autoconf team explicitly and
intentionally broke this, and there is no provision for backwards
compatibility (they do suggest a replacement for this hack, but it relies on
features that are present only in recent versions of autoconf, where this
trick is not needed at all. Brilliant!)

I will remove this hack, and will add AC_PREREQ(2.53) to configure.in.
Please update your autoconf installation ASAP.
