Thank you for your help
but I still don't get anywhere
my default interfaces file looks like this:
JDBC
query tcp ether 192.138.151.39 4444
master tcp ether 192.138.151.39 4444
myserver
query tcp ether 127.0.0.1
4000
master tcp ether
127.0.0.1 4000
myserver2
query tcp ether 127.0.0.1
4001
master tcp ether
127.0.0.1 4001
and I have a php3 file like this:
<html><head><title>Grislys PHP Test Page</title></head>
<body bgcolor=green color=center>
<h1 align=center><font color=aqua>Grislys PHP Test Page</font></h1>
<hr>
<br>
<br>
<br>
<?php if(!isset($Btn))
{
$con = mssql_connect("JDBC",
"query", "");
if($con > 0)
{
echo
"cool \$con == $con\n";
}else{
echo
"Bad \$con == $con\n";
}
mssql_close($con);
}else{ // if(!isset($Btn))
....
} // if(!isset($Btn))
....
?>
</body></html>
and I get:
Bad $con ==
Warning: 0 is not a Sybase link index in /home/francis/public_html/ExDB.php3
on line 18
in the body of the page I am sure this is really simple,
when you know how? my problem is that I don't.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

The interfaces file should be located in the directory where freetds was
install when you typed 'make install'. By default this is
/usr/local/freetds. There is a sample file in there with a couple of
entries (if you have a connection to the internet you can use the 'JDBC'
server for testing). Just copy one of the entries and change its name (the
first line), the hostname and port number to where your server lives.Cheers,
Brian
