Karl:
Richard Oster and I are still in the Sanders boat (at least to some extent).
Doug Moo presented a light assessment of Sanders in Moo's Romans 1-8
commentary.
Since I came out of Hebrew Union in Cinti I have a stronger desire to read
the NT through Jewish glasses than I did when I thought more in hellenistic
terms. Oster guided me to cut my teeth on your Romans Debate when it first
came out.
HUC profs are still disagreeing over dates of rabbinic material so we must
not throw the baby out with the bath water by adopting a wholesale Neusner
to dating and methodology. Some are good but some of course are filled with
presupppositions.
My own addition to the topic of "works of the law" is this: why haven't we
been discussing aspect especially in Gal 2:14-16. This seems to answer the
question of individual or nationalistic attention via Paul.
