There are a number of discussions of how to avoid parallelomania (Samuel Sandmel's phrase). One of the best is Hildebrecht Hommel, "Ad Astra Per Aspera" in Wuerzberger Jahrbuecher fuer klassische Philologie 4. Here too, mis chelidon ear ou poier.
