Hey fine folks,

We've got two more days of summer fun are going to blast off into fall
with a whole slew of contemporary music and dance nights!! Come on down and
try our seasonal pumpkin beers and fancy peruvian/ sumatra coffee! We are
open now Monday thru Saturdays at 5pm.

Plus, mark your calendars for next *Sunday's BENEFIT* throw-down for the
Nightlight featuring *In the Year of the Pig, Savage Knights and Systems.*.
*OCTOBER 3rd!!

*

*Wed 09/22 Phantascist / Rat Babies <http://www.myspace.com/ratbabies>
/ HOG<http://www.myspace.com/hoggnogg>- 9:30 PM $5
*

Carrboro free jazz/psych/noise duo Phantascist shift between caterwauling
alto exultation, meditative guitar interludes, SCG-style faux-raga
ruminations, and vocal improvisations that are as much tongue-of-flame as
they are Linda Sharrock. Georgia trio Rat Babies share a lot of reference
points with fellow Athenians and sludge-gods Harvey Milk, but Mux Blank's
rumble fuzz bass playing is something heavier than hero-worship. Local
sludge-thrashers HOG open up with a LOUD sound that's hard to follow.

*Thurs 09/23 Caleb Caudle and the
Bayonets<http://www.myspace.com/calebcaudle>/ Soft
Spot <http://www.myspace.com/withlovesoftspot> (NYC) /
Tripp<http://www.myspace.com/trippband>(Elvis Costello band) - 9:30 PM
*

Winston-Salem's Caleb Caudle and the Bayonets play a country-pop that's fun
and infections and just enough "alt" to keep the true-believers happy. Like
a Cross Canadian Ragweed without the syrupy slick, or hits-heavy Springsteen
with more twang. BK gentle dream-poppers Soft Spot deliver ambient sound
palettes and post-punk drumming for frontwoman Sarah Kinlaw's
Emmylou-meets-Joanna siren call. Local guitar/piano-poppers Tripp open.

*Fri 09/24** Signal Fest <http://www.signalfest.com/Home> - The Southeast
Electronics Music Festival - *

* DANCE PARTY! 9 PM: $10 *

*Jubilee <http://www.jubileelovesyou.com/> /
TALK<http://nightmovesblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/talk-august-promo-mix.html>/
DJ One Duran (WXYC & 1200 Problems ) / DJ Steph Russ (WXYC DJ)
*

* Serious bass pressure at Nightlight to kick off the weekend portion of
this year's Signalfest. We're pleased to present the following lineup, with
headliners from the mighty Nightshifters label:*

Jubilee [Brooklyn, NY]:

When she’s not ‘regularly whipping dance floors into a frenzy with her
rambunctious combination of bass-heavy electro, upfront house, UK funky, and
tropical flavor’ (XLR8R), Jubilee is Publicity Director of the
N...ightshifters label with Jason Forrest (aka DJ Donna Summer). Jubilee
holds down a monthly residence at the infamous ‘Flashing Lights' parties at
88 Palace in NYC, with fellow residents DJ Ayres (The Rub) and Nick
Catchdubs (Fools Gold Records). Jubilee has spread her sparks across the
globe in far away lands such as Bucharest, Berlin, London and Reykvavik. In
New York, she has played along side heavy hitters like Drop The Lime, The
Juan Maclean, Simian Mobile Disco, Digitalism, Jokers of the Scene and Green
Velvet.

Talk
<http://www.nightlightclub.com/%20http://www.myspace.com/ttttalk>[Atlanta,
GA]:

One of the newest additions to the Nightshifters label, Talk helps hold down
the Night Moves monthly in Atlanta. His debut EP "Holy Mountain" will be out
in October, and you can expect he'll be ready to present it to Signal in a
fine fashion.

*Sat 09/25** Signal Fest <http://www.signalfest.com/Home> - Second Evening
of Southeastern Electronics Music Festival - 9 PM : $10 *

Rapoon (Robin Storey, ex Zoviet France member, Newcastle, UK) / Illusion of
Safety (Dan Burke, Chicago)
Ethan Clauset / Steve Burnett / Khristian Weeks / Bicameral Mind

It is impossible to underestimate the influence of industrial drone and
fractured electronics pioneers Zoviet France. Robin Storey was already an
accomplished electronic composer when he joined the group in 1979-- as
Rapoon, he continues to experiment with sustained electronics textures,
glitched techno beats, vocal drones, heavy industrial drum machine work, and
more. Chicago sound artist Dan Burke has collaborated with a number of
electronic composers and experimenters through his Illusion of Safety
project-- his current work of diverse industrial and electronic compositions
works to explore the psychological impact of sound. Local electronic
experimenters Ethan Clauset, Steve Burnett (Subscape Annex), Khristian
Weeks, and Bicameral Mind (Bryce Eiman and Shaun Sandor) open.

*Mon 09/27 Spider Bags <http://www.myspace.com/spiderbags> / Strapping
Fieldhands <http://www.myspace.com/strappingfieldhands> (Philadelphia) / Los
Naturales <http://losnaturales.bandcamp.com/> (Chapel Hill)*

*9:30 PM $5*

O.G. Siltbreeze lo-fi rockers Strapping Fieldhands recently got the
justly-deserved reissue treatment of their first LP and are now rolling
through the Nightlight. Right as rain blooz-garage locals Spider Bags
headline while noise-garage rockers Los Naturales open. Don't sleep on this
one-- Monday night, it'll start early.

*Tues 09/28 Solo Performance by Asimina Chremos
<http://asiminachremos.com/>(Dance ARTIST) - $5-10 sliding scale
*

*nightlightspace* is a 45-minute solo dance by Asimina Chremos. The
site-sensitive dance takes into account the character of the performance
area, in this case, the interior of the Nightlight club. A resident of
Chicago for the last decade or so, Chremos recently made Durham her home
base.

*Wed 09/29 Boyzone <http://blogs.myspace.com/boyszone> / Tinsel
Teeth<http://www.myspace.com/tinselteethy>(Load Records) / Unstoppable
Death Machines <http://www.myspace.com/theunstoppabledeathmachines> /
Electric Cactus- 9:30 PM *

With Jeff Rehnlund back in town after schooling in New Mexico, Boyzone is
experiencing a resurgence of its sweaty man-on-man
moan/mutter/spit/scream/crackle/static/splatter/'splode mode of noise and
electric improv. Brooklyn's Unstoppable Death Machines exude sheer
terrifying bliss in rock duo format, strapping on face mics and
spazz-grooving out in loudasfugk jump jams for fans of Mindflayer, Harry
Pussy, even some Faith No More, bros. One-man bass-drums-electronics trio
Electric Cactus opens.

*Thurs 09/30 Gmish Klezmer Band <http://philblank.com/gmish.html> and Taraf
de Unemployed (Richmond, va) / *

*Vincent Joos: Presents and discusses video from recent Romanian fieldwork
trip / *

*Blood Jar Creepers (with Aaron Smithers, Ezekiel Graves, Charlie Hearon and
Crowmeat Bob)*

*9 PM $5
*

Coming up!!

Boys / The Ethnographers / Michael and His Garden / Chris Jones - 9:30 PM $5

Gear up for a night of rock and Americana songwriting and grooving as we
hear the sweet country-soul of Mebane's Radar's Clown of Sedation, the
country-rock of Eno Mountain Boys, and the pop-rock of Greenville (NC!)'s
Ethnographers. Chapel Hillians Michael and His Garden and Chris Jones open.
*
Sat 10/02 WXYC EARLY 90's Dance Party!* Relive the jams with a rotating cast
of WXYC DJ's

In The Year of the Pig / Savage Knights / Systems*

Now that it's acceptable to like the Grateful Dead again (
http://www.arthurmag.com/2009/05/19/how-to-get-into-the-grateful-dead-originally-pubd-in-arthur-no-18sept-2005/

), I think it's time we show how much an In The Year of the Pig show
approximates the o.g. G.D. experience:
1) Long-ass songs with minimal vocals, psychedelic effects, and inspired
improvisations: GD = see 50-minute "Dark Stars," trails, Jerry leads. ITYOTP
= see 15-minute "And Remember The Good Times," trails, Harper's squealing
fretboard wrestling, Zeke's squealing electronics
2) Unique shows every single night: GD = see 500 ways of playing "That's It
For The Other One." ITYOTP = see 500 ways of playing "You Want To Live."
3) Bearded frontmen with penchants for monochromatic t-shirts: GD = see J.
Garcia. ITYOTP = see A. Smithers
4) Two drummers who play like one drummer with eight hands: GD = see B.
Kreutzman, M. Hart. ITYOTP = see R. Biggers, D. Cantwell
5) A bassist who drops notes so deep and resonant that you feel them more
than you hear them: GD = see P. Lesh. ITYOTP = see L. Sward
6) All your friends are there: GD = see that really cool PhD student who
shared a bowl with you back at Deer Creek in '94. ITYOTP = see the same.
7) There's frequently some bearded dudes dishing righteous burritos in the
parking lot: GD = see Chewie, Tuck, and Cricket; ITYOTP = see Smithers and
Lincoln
8) It's the best thing in town that night, so come on out-- Triangle
pan-jazz ensemble Savage Knights and Chapel Hill/Charlotte
ambient/progressive posthardcore titans Systems keep the festive atmosphere
going early. Don't sleep.
