Again have to point out Nightlight and Bull City Headquarters as the
champions of high standards. These venues also stand out as bastions
of quality musical experiences resulting from the regular audience
members' refusal to kowtow to bands that rely on such banal tactics as
charismatic performance style and gimmickry.

I always thought Glenn at the 506 also did a good job separating the
wheat from the chafe when it comes to booking. Those dudes at
Reservoir seem to book pretty good bands most of the time, I missed
Bastard Sword and Transportation last Saturday, but the players in
those bands know their scales; and Kings seemed to try to avoid
booking shit bands, and from what I have seen booked at Dain's, she
does a good job too. And a lot of those bands at Volume 11 Tavern in
Raleigh can read some guitar tab like nobody's fucking business; can't
say they don't have skills.

Also lots of the musicians I interact with at these venues are kind of
sloppy and lazy or have bad taste and are therefore not very
attractive, so the cuteness factor never really comes into play.

oh my.
