I used to have an 87 Mazda pickup and the transmission broke on Friday
of labor day weekend. It was a beat up truck so, as you say, it was
almost a foolish venture to repair it. But Donnie Barnes from Chatham
Cty, came and picked up the truck with his tow truck on Saturday, took
it to his junkyard and found me a transmission for which I think I
paid $300 or $350 including installation and towing. If I remember
correctly i had the truck back by Tuesday. It was a good job and well
worth it. I had the truck for another four years without having any
transmission problems. I got his number from someone else who heard
my transmission grind to a halt from about a block away. They guy
said Donnie was awesome and he owed him a favor, and then he handed me
Donnies phone number. So I feel I owe Donnie an favor too, cause I
thought that truck was going to the junkyard to stay. Here's the
number he had back then - 919-971-1252.
