  • Date: 1 Dec 2006 12:38:02 -0800

>From the article:

"Changeover: There's not much left of the interior of Jo & Joe's
Downtown as the new owners have even ripped up the tile floor as they
remake the 2,400-square-foot space into Five Points Irish Pub, named
after the famous neighborhood in New York City and Durham's own Five
Points.

The pub side of the downtown Durham business will feature 16 beers on
draft, while the restaurant side will serve up traditional Irish food
like shepherd's pie and fish and chips, according to Malachy Noone, the
pub's general manager. The venture's partners have brought in a
100-year-old wood bar from upstate New York.

Noone said the pub will maintain the same neighborhood feel as Jo &
Joe's, but everything else will change. Look for Five Points to open in
January at 427 W. Main St.

JoAnne Worthington, the owner of Jo & Joe's, sold the business last
week before leaving Durham to help out with a family illness:"

Waitaminute! Doesn't NC have a state law that there can be only one
Irish Pub per city? That's why Ri-Ra's shut down in Raleigh, right?
