Well, it's funny. I'd sworn off that whole gig because it was Too Much Trouble to hook up with people, but this weekend I had to take apart my ER-20s to clean them, and they were looking pretty gunky, and last night at the Cradle they were sounding muffled, so I resolved to order a new pair (just one pair) today.

But so the current pricing is $12/pair (better than the $20 that they used to charge from their website) PLUS $6 shipping (not sure how many pairs you can get for that). $18 seemed kind of steep for one pair. They say to call/email for volume pricing above 5 pairs, so I tried to call but got no answer. I just sent an email; we'll see if I get any response.

IF the cost differential is significant, I may order 10 pair or so without bothering to solicit potential buyers, and then just always keep a couple of pairs in my camera bag or something, since I'm usually at shows when people ask me if I have any extras.

This doesn't answer Rob's question, of course, since these are the non-custom ER-20s, the same ones that Lisa just posted about. Like her, I've been happy enough with them that I've never felt the need to take the plunge to the custom-fitted ones. I know quite a few people who have, though. Not sure if any of them are on this list, but everyone I know who has them is *very* happy with them, as far as I can recall. As in, if the subject comes up, they usually try to talk me into getting a pair. I dunno whether they have the Etymotics or the other major brand, though.

So, do any of you sport custom earplugs (ones where you have a mold
made of your ear canal, send them away and the plugs come back w/ little
replaceable sound baffles blocking 9, 15, 25dB)? If so, what kind do
you have? Where did you get fit for them? How much did it all cost?
Did insurance cover any of it? How do you like them?

I've worn disposable plugs for years, but I'm not really happy w/ them
and they fall out and when one fell out at Blue Cheer and my options
were going deaf from the very very loud 80's crunch metal guitar stack
or picking that little sucker up off the 506 floor, dusting it off and
jamming it back in my ear, I did the latter. That act haunts my dreams
now as I can only imagine what lives on the 506 floor.

Whyfor Mr. Mullet have to play that crunchy 80's metal guitar sound when
late 60's sludge was what was called for? Whyfor he do that? Still
they rocked w/ much greatness.
