The Cradle schedule generally specifies if a show is seated or not: http://www.catscradle.com/schedule.html

For instance, scroll down to Rob Bell on July 20th. By comparison, the line for Iris DeMent doesn't say "seated show" so I'd guess that's a "no."

Seats are nice, except for (from the venue's perspective) two things: the hassle to set them up & take them down, and the reduction in rated capacity (having a couple of hundred non-attached seats in a venue makes the fire marshal pretty nervous, and for good reason--I always seem to get entangled in those lightweight folding chairs they use even when there's *not* a panicky evacuation going on).

Dunno from your question whether you've ever been to the Cradle, but there are bench seats along the side walls, and some additional bench seating at the backs of some low risers in the rear of the room. However, due to the nature of the venue & the crowds, you usually wind up having to sit on the 6" wide ledge at the top of the seatback, with your feet on the seat, if you want to be able to see the stage, and that's usually about as uncomfortable as standing, albeit to different parts of the anatomy.

But maybe your butt is really skinny. The main problem is actually that the 6" ledge is right up against the wall, so in order to keep your ass on the thing, you have to sit up super-straight with the wall at your back, and having good posture for that long really wears me out. ;-)

I'm planning on taking some friends to Cat's Cradle next month.

I've never been there, what are the typical seating arrangements?

you drape yourself along the wall with one (if you're drinking) or two
hands in the pockets of your blue-jeans.

So, when there is a singer songwriter (such as Iris Dement next month)....... no seats?
