Yes, but isn't it curious that it's the out-of-town folks who responded with relatively high levels of knee-jerk vitriol whereas the folks who live here seem to be taking a little bit of time to examine the plan & maybe even reserve judgement for a bit?

Of course, on the other hand, Malcolm Gladwell might argue that the knee-jerk reaction could be more correct than one might expect. But, as we all learned last night, his main point is that we need to be *more* aware of the inherent biases that are driving our knee-jerk reactions & snap-decisions, and in many cases actively work to short-circuit the circumstances that enable the snap decision in the first place.

In any case, I probably shouldn't lump you in with Hollinghurst, as the bulk of your original post was a followup to my own ranty rant about the dangers of putting residential near rockclubs.

However, you did liken the thing to Reston Town Center, and I'm not sure that the two are equivalent. But then I've never really spent any time in Reston.

I may respond more fully later today, but I have two quick points to
make.

1) I may live in NYC, but do you think people like Bo and I would
still be reading this list if we had no continuing investment in the
Triangle? Like most everyone else who moves away, I've been jawing
idly about moving back to NC for at least two years now. (insert
discussion here of the alma-mater-as-tourist-destination phenomenon
that greatly affects CH development)

2) Is a guy with no jaw who suggests that maybe you might not want to
take up chewing tobacco merely projecting his hatred of jawlessness
upon you?
