Is this a troll, or am I missing something? It was THEIR albums being
sold in them, so they felt they had a responsibility to say something.
The labels didn't give most of them a say in the matter: every R.E.M.
album through Automatic for the People (1992) came in one.

Nah. Trying to find a link between longboxes and AOL/CDR coasters just
makes you look stupid.

Should I send an open letter to Bono and Stipe on your behalf to
encourage them to protest the use of pizza boxes? And paper towels?
The landfill is full of empty soup cans, too - maybe I'll fax Sting for
some help.
