Hi all, Thanks for the comments – it’s much appreciated. Some additional points and comments:
1.
The current plan is to get long-term, core funding to keep someone at the desk for a few days a week, and then have this topped up with partners,
donations and other occasional fundraising efforts; the output of CCANZ could rise and fall with these contributions, without the core project being threatened.
2.
GiveaLittle is in the works. I meant to launch this with the new redesign, but am still working through the details. I’m definitely more keen for
an ongoing donation button than a limited crowdfunding campaign. I’d also much, much prefer community donations to go to specific projects (like resource production, interns, events, the odd flight), rather than salary; indeed, this will be an explicit guarantee
for the GiveaLittle box. Anyway, I very much doubt we’ll need to rely solely on donations!
3.
On the letter writing or other support: thanks very much for the offer, and I’ll definitely keep this in mind. We’ve already made approaches to several
organisations, though declarations of support may become necessary down the line.
4.
Loomio: Maybe we could trial this in a month or two? It would help address the autocracy that creeps into CCANZ when there’s only one person at the
desk. Cheers, Matt Matt McGregor

This is true, but as a community, we don't have to limit our planning to the end of our current confirmed funding. In fact, if we had a 5 or 10 year plan which was put together from ideas sourced from the CC
community, this could be a powerful tool for convincing funders that CC ANZ is a worthwhile social investment. The Wellington City Council have trialled using Loomio as a consultation platform, is this worth a try? I'd also like us to look beyond public funding bodies, and consider more use of crowdfunding. Matt has had some success running PledgeMe campaigns to fund part-time salaries for interns. Is it overly ambitious to think we could fund some
or all of Matt's salary (our single largest spend I believe?) by crowdfunding? Could we have a fundraising page on
GiveALittle.co.nz, linked from
creativecommons.org.nz, to obtain a yield from people who value what that site provides? (while we're on the topic of crowdfunding, I'd just like to put in another pitch for people to donate to support Webcitation:
http://webcitation.org/) In the longer term, hopefully we will see more people making a living from CC-licensed creative works, just as they make money from ARR-licensed works. More Nina Paleys! It would be great if we could brainstorm ways for CC ANZ to help people
do that, and encourage them to donate a proportion of their earnings back to support CC ANZ in its work.
Absolutely, as a long-term volunteer, I would be happy to write a letter of endorsement for CC ANZ and for Matt, if this would help with funding. Hei kōnā
