Richard White Matt – you’re doing a great job and it pleasing to hear you say you’ve had good support from the Royal Society. Having said that, nine months is hardly a basis from which any organisation can undertake any sort of serious work. To me the health of CCANZ is
critical to many of the fields that those of us in the wider CC community belong to. If there is any way that we can contribute to the understanding of your funders of the importance of CC to our respective areas then please let us know (off-list or whatever). On Behalf Of Matt McGregor Hi all, Earlier in the year, I promised to keep the community in the loop with funding discussions. While the progress this year has not been as smooth as we would have liked, I can now
happily confirm that CCANZ’s funding from central government has been guaranteed, at a reduced level, until the end of June 2014.
By way of background: in June 2010 CCANZ received a three-year funding commitment from what is now MBIE to support the rollout of NZGOAL. This commitment expired on 1 July this
year. While we understood that this commitment would be rolled over for one more year, it took longer than expected to have this confirmed. RSNZ has been very supportive during this process, and they are continuing to work with myself and the rest of the advisory
panel to secure ongoing funding from a range of governmental and non-governmental organisations.
While we hustle for funding, the basic work of advocacy and outreach continues apace (24 talks and workshops since July 1, I’m proud to say), and there are a bunch of ongoing
projects in the works. From my position, I definitely see momentum building, especially in education, which is where I spend most of my time and energy – though also across culture, heritage, research and government – and I’m very happy to have another guaranteed
nine months to keep building on this momentum. Apologies for keeping you all in the dark about this, though I hope you understand that we didn’t want to do anything to prejudice our efforts!
