From your answer, I am not sure you got what I was saying.

In Greg's bad case, Dave get's a monopoly by being the only one who can apply
the DRM and thus becomse the sole provider. In my example, anyone can apply
the DRM for the platform. If they do, they must also provide parallel,
non-DRM version. Anyone else can then get the non-DRM version, make whatever
changes they want, and then re-apply the DRM to allow their modded version to
play on the player.

Wait, if the license forbids applying DRM if all are not allowed to apply it,
Greg's single vendor can't apply it unlees he allows every and anyone to
apply it.
