I didn't expect the meeting to be the only task, but such meeting obligations are usually the most problematic part (also given our tight budget this year). I guess we can manage to give input/timely comments and that might even be helpful as a regular ping on policy and law reform for the group - which might mean some more "Action required:" emails on this list ;)

i think it is a good idea to join, but i think you are underestimating the work. being a member also means that you get the ability to comment on the reports produced by the group and it does not really makes sense to be a member without being willing (or having the time to do this). I think that we should try to join (Alek is currently figuring out how this can be done for communia) but that we should only do this if we are confident that we can actually make a useful contribution (and that is more than attending one meeting a year). best, paul

Right now there's only them, EDRi and some few other independent civil society groups listed with the observatory, Communia possibly to join also. Wikimedia would like to build some more counterweight to the strong corporate/gov bias present in the working groups. Gwen and I think that this makes sense and the effort comes down to about 1 in-person meeting per year, which I or someone else (any volunteers?) should reasonably manage to attend in Brussels.
