If you get an old 28k or 33k PCMCIA modem card,
it will probably work with the default driver
in BL3 (pcnet). PCMCIA modems of that age used
one of three drivers: 3Com, Zircom, or pcnet.
PCnet was the most common and is the usual driver
for old no-name PCMCIA cards. So, if you avoid
3Com and Zircom, an old PCMCIA modem is almost
certain to work with BL3. A 3Com will also work
with BL3, but you will need to edit your PCMCIA
config file and download/install the 3Com module
from the BL3 site.
Newer PCMCIA modems (56k) have a variety of
drivers. There's still a chance you could get
one that runs on pcnet, but the odds are not so
good. I'd aim for a non-Zircom, non-3Com 33k.
And don't forget the dongle. Most PCMCIA cards
(except for the X-jack type) need a dongle to
work. Old cheap cards are often sold without
the dongle (let the buyer beware).

Steven
