I use pine or mutt online (sdf.lonestar.org) - text only.

Yes, that's right! Opera 9.25 runs in BasicLinux!

Does it work any better than 9.23? Opera is taking longer to download each version so I don't bother with minor upgrades. It says 9.25 is a recommended security upgrade. The security issues involved plugins, TLS certificates (what are those?), RTF editing, and bitmaps revealing random data from memory (I delete cache on exit). 9.24 similar.

Opera 9.5 has improved mail. I use pine or mutt. Improved content blocking. Changed address bar. 'refactoring' of keyboard shortcuts allowing single-key shortcuts, and experimental screen reader (apparently only works with Windows or Mac). Improved handling of CSS (I display in user mode). Improved javascript - this might be helpful since some sites don't work at all with 9.23 (DELL download?).

Has anyone tried the rich text editor?

Some UNIX specific changes. Added preliminary support for Flash 9 Beta 2, mplayer plugin.

Slackware 8.0, 8.1, 9.0 and 'download this package in tar.gz format'

File size unknown .

The website <basiclinux.com.ru> only gives instructions for Opera 8, though. They can upgrade it to Opera 9 (the only difference being the name of the package file). It may be a little slow on pre-Pentium 2 machines. It runs smoothly on 128MB of RAM, though.

Are the instructions generic to any version?

Look in the archives (see below) for Opera 9.23 and previous versions. I had Opera 7 working in 16MB with swap file. Opera 6 worked in mono.

Please note that attempting to load any website that heavily depends on Flash (e.g. video streaming) will slow down your computer to a crawl. Also, I couldn't figure out how to install the Flash plugin. Can anyone help, please?

See basiclinux site, 'support' link, bottom of page for archives.

Steven gives instructions on installing flash player. You may need a later glibc. Glibc from after Slackware 9.0 won't work with the BL3 2.2 kernel. I posted 2.4.31 kernels.

Please set your email program to send just plain text, and not also html.
It saves download time (not everyone has broadband) and mailbox space.
Instead of posting images, you could put them at your website with a link.

You can save space by:
1) Deleting the directory from which you installed opera.
or
2) Running it from the directory it was unpacked into, without installing it. cd /opera-9.25* ./opera

3) Upxing the opera binary to less than half size (from 14MB down to about 5MB).
