In what respect was it limited? It's possible
that the default Xserver (Xvesa) might be able
to do what you want.

It sounds like you were running xf86config --
it's not an easy utility to use. xf86config is
designed for people who know what they are doing,
not newbies.

I recommend you go back to the beginning, get the default
Xserver working and then tell us why you think it is limited.
It may be able to do more than you think.
