I set up the qemu version of BL to be networked with the host "out of the
box." I've never had to take any additional
steps to get it to network with the host operating system and to use the
host's internet connection. If you take a look
at the file /etc/rc you should see a section that reads

-----------------------------------------------
###ACTIVATE_ETHERNET###
#ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1
insmod 8390
insmod ne
udhcpc
----------------------------------------------

That section is what loads the NIC modules that work with qemu's virtual NIC,
then issues a dhcp request, which is
answered by qemu's virtual router. If those lines got somehow commented out,
you need to uncomment them. But as I
recall I added them to the qemu image and left them uncommented. Anyway, the
way to tell if all this is working in BL
is to, before trying to run any other commands such as you list in your
second post, just issue the command ifconfig
right after booting. Does it show any IP assigned to eth0? If so, you should
be online. And if your host machine has an
internet connection, BL should share it with no further fussing. As I recall
the qemu virtual router assigns and
address of 10.0.0.X to the virtual NIC in BL.
