The BL3 version of Opera works fine for setting up a gmail account
and reading its mail online. However, once you are signed up, you
can set up smtp and pop3 there that work with an ordinary mail reader.
I now use sylpheed to send/receive gmail.
Or mailz/pmail?
No, they do not work with gmail. Tt requires
SMTP authenication (which does not work in pmail).
Can you read subject lines and From: and delete things
without downloading them? Download messages without
attachments?
With sylpheed? I think not.
Cheers,

I am told IMAP lets you do all that, but gmail only offers POP. Fastmail has IMAP but a the free accounts have a poor spam filter. Pine has IMAP and POP capabilities.
