Steven, please explain how you set up Opera to

DO you have Opera working in BL3 as user?
Or only in BL2?

No, I will not be doing that. As I said before,
I provided the passwd package for BL3 only because
someone asked for it. I do not consider BL3 a
secure platform for multiple users or network
servers (despite the fact that a few people are
using BL3 for that).

I would like opera working in BL3 as user before
Thursday

As I said before, I think BL2 (or DSL or Vector)
would be more suitable for what you are trying to do.

Cheers,
Steven

-----------------------

I will switch if BL3 is incapable of running Opera as user, but we have a nice 40MB or so package already set up with everything else working but user/Opera. Boots into X with a menu in the rxvt. Xvesa and rxvt and dialing even work now. I can give them that, for use as root.

Someone just wants to do eBay, securely. Is 'user' less susceptible to identity theft, their concern?

Lots of other people had this problem in opera. Preference initialization failure. Generic failure. Some bug that only affected user not root. Fixed it by changing window managers.

A Russian fixed the problem: root permissions in /home/user/.opera.
The suggestion was to use 'su -'.

In BL2 or BL3 ls -l
drwxrwxrwx 7 root root .. user

Works in BL2 with the startx from BL3.
same Xvesa and different xinit.

Only noticeable difference is BL3 is set to require Enter as the password.

su user works similarly to login as user.
DOn't have .profile but I can get into X by typing out the xinit line.
User will not startx chrooted.
