- Subject: [BL] Loop BL3 with kernel 2.4.31 and emm386
- Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2007 15:01:09 +0000 (UTC)
I ran across some old notes that reminded me that 2.4.31 kernel (which is larger than 600K) only boots with loop linux if you have emm386 loaded, perhaps because it needs the extra memory for the bigger kernel size.
Hitting F5 during boot (bypassing system files) caused a 'Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount rootfs on 07:00'.
Not hitting F5 means that with our ATI cards Xvesa won't work, which is a reason to use either ext2 linux or another X server.
2.2.26 kernels work without emm386.
My linksys WPC11 ver 3 wireless card works with kernel 2.4.31 but not 2.2.26.
