BL2 RAMDISK works on this Compaq 5010

I assume that is the default kernel.

116MHz laptop computer.

That's a strange speed. Are you sure it's a Pentium
not a souped-up 486?

Hwinfo says it is a 120MHz Pentium I.

p1 kernel 2.2.26
Starts to boot them almost immediately a screen full of:
CPU#0: Machine Check Exception:

I suggest you try the default kernel.

I tried the default and the PI kernel, both crashed identically.
No memory managers.

Onboard SB16 sound would have been nice for linux, but the onboard lucent win/lin modem does not work anyway ('failed to respond' after a half hour driver download). I will put linux on his desktop instead. This works with wireless in Win98. They have started field testing of the free wireless network recently.

The wireless modules inserted in loop and ext2 linux on a desktop with ISA pcmcia slot, but iwconfig and iwlist segfault, with airo, which is the card they work with elsewhere. Only the first time iwlist did work, and gave me a different list of addresses from in the kitchen. Did not check udhcpc with a router signal.

Cheers,
Steven
