Are you familiar with gdm? I've tried xdm (which I think
is similar) and the configuration had some fishhooks. Do
you really want to use gdm? I normally use a simpler method.

Yes.

I would guess it's a gdm config issue. I suggest you
start the Xserver on BL3 by doing: startxt
Then get gdm to look for a listening server at that
address (sorry, I don't recall the precise gdm terminology
for doing that).

On the BL3 computer:
-------
startxt
-------

On your main computer:
---------------------------
export DISPLAY=192.168.x.yy (the address of the BL3 computer)
icewm (or other wm on your main computer)
---------------------------
