I renamed my existing BL3 fs.img because it was almost full and
then I rebooted.

It seems to work about as well as the older one.

user also needs write permission. For /dev/dsp, write=playback,
read=recording permission. Similar for /dev/mixer: write=change
settings, read=examine settings.

Why would you want execute permission for essentially random
audio data?

If I don't specify -ao oss on the command line it behaves exactly
the same as if I do. Odd.

That won't work if you have no permission to open /dev/dsp
for writing.

I can get mplayer to play oss or sdl sound by putting it in
/root/.mplayer/config. I am root on BL3. I can also get
it to use various vo drivers, excepting framebuffer
because I am not in fb mode.
