The difference is that I used the first binary, the one that had to be
saved as mplayer.bz2, and which contained ONLY the binary.
That binary ran in BL2, and in BL3 using Christof's sound package and a SB16
card.

The binary (mplayer.tgz) that contains installation, man page, libraries,
and such stuff, does NOT run for me.
