Slackware has rpm2tgz (in some package whose name I forget), also mcedit will install rpm files, and someone on the list mentioned some other program for using rpm files in Slackware. I have never used any of these successfully. I can take Debian packages apart with ar -x and get a .tar file that I install manually. I don't recall if there was an Opera for older Debian.
