First step to take is to try to identify the primary chip used on the
card. Pull the card, and look for identifying information. Usually,
the largest chip on the card will be the most important one, since
multiple card manufacturers source from a fewer number of suppliers,
and the drivers are written with the primary chips in mind.

3c50x modules are for cards with the 3Com 50x chipset.
Tulip modules are for DEC 2104x chipsets (if I recall corectly)
NE2000/NE1000 are for Novell 2000/1000 chipsets, and many cards have
this built in as a compatibility mode, so it could be worth a try.
