Version 3.1 is quite old now. There have been four
updates since then. We are now on 3.31. Some of

Xvesa (the X driver in BL3) clashes with some DOS/Windows
drivers (for example: some versions of himem.sys). Try
booting your system with bare DOS -- no config.sys, no
autoexec.bat, no Windows. That usually solves the problem.
This problem with Xvesa is mentioned in the BL3 readme.
