The steps should be similar.
But... but everything I found in Slackware 9.0 / Mandrake 9.0
for Chinese was for X and not for pure text console.

How many different letters do you use in big5 or gb?
In pure text mode (not this emulated in xterm) vga card
can display max. only 512 different letters on the same screen
at the same time. (I hope you catch it). Ega and lower - only max. 256.
Under X there is no such a problem, because X works in graphic mode.

Tell me one more thing: was there support for chinese in DOS times?
Was there a chinese version of M$-DOG?
