If 256 colors is the limit, then this is set by links,
not svgalib.

The SVGA Xserver works with the Tseng ET3000 and the
ordinary ET4000. For the ET4000/W32, you need to use
a different Xserver: xw32.tgz. There is an explanation
of this in /slakware/x1/diskx1 under xw32
