Is /dev/hdc your CDrom drive? A CDrom drive is read-only
and can not be checked by e2fsck.

Did you install version 2.03 or 2.02? There was a bug
in 2.02 that sometimes put the wrong partition into
/etc/fstab (it was corrected in 2.03). Have a look in
/etc/fstab and see if /dev/hdc is listed as the main
partition (/). If so, change it to correct partition.

If you are not sure what to do, please send a copy of
your /etc/fstab and we will look at it. Sorry about
the problem.
