I found the following on a Pine listserv archive that seems to indicate
that Pine can be made to download all messages locally from a POP server.
The message shows the relevant configuration screen in full. I don't know
to which version(s) of Pine the text of the message refers. I have not
yet suceeded in getting the method to work on Pine 4.21, but will keep
trying. Whether I fail or succeed, I'll post again on this. Message from
listserv follows:

The ADD A FILTERING RULE screen is pretty overwhelming but I have
used a Pine filter to move all messages from a POP box to another
mailbox. Below is the screen with the 6 lines that I suggest you
change preceded by a greater than sign (>). Below the screen I
have some comments.

Comments:

* I set the score interval to (-INF,INF) to ensure that every
message is matched. It used to be that at least one non-default
condition was needed for a Pine filter to work. It might work
leaving all the conditions in their default state -- let me
know if you experiment with that!

* For the Filter Action, you can move the messages to either an
IMAP mailbox or a local mailbox. The example I give is a local
mailbox, but you could change that to be an IMAP box.

Hope this helps,
Nancy

Thanks so much! My vote for a graphical browser for BL2 still goes to
Links2 (in high hopes that solving the wierd color issues it gives can be
easily resolved). Anyone else care to cast theirs?

> > Perhaps you should check that icewm is actually available:
> > -----------
> > which icewm

I have icewm. By running the configuration program (which probed and
selected clock speeds for my card) I was able to get to the stage where it
loads icewm. (It first displays an X against a hatched background and
then a small white arrow against a black background). I got the same
results for both VGA16 and VGA2 (mono). No stripe or penguin. It appears
to be set to virtual resolution 800, mode 640. Cannot move the arrow.

The mouse I had in there originally may not have worked (the X would not
move, anyway) so this time I plugged in one known working in DOS, into
com1, which I think is /dev/ttyS0 (at least it was for the nullmodem
cable). Microsoft 2-button mouse made by microsoft. Checked it first in
DOS after loading a mouse driver, on the same computer.

The program asked me to specify the location of the mouse. I told it
/dev/ttyS0. The mouse still would not work after I typed startx. I
exited Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and got on exit:

Warning: /dev/ttyS0 unable to get status of mouse fd (Input/output error)

Typing xinit gets me this message immediately without the black screen and
arrow.

I then tried /dev/mouse and /dev/tty00 (both suggested by the program).
No help.

How do I set this properly for the mouse? I have not used a mouse before
in Linux. Do I really NEED to have a mouse to use X? There is no way in
the configuration program to tell it you don't want a mouse, but could I
delete /dev/ttyS0 in the configuration file? I detest computer mouses,
Opera hopefully does not need one and you said icewm did not either.

The O'Reilly book only tells me '/dev/mouse is usually a link to the
appropriate serial port (such as /dev/ttyS0) for serial mice....'
Where would I put such a link?
