To recap: a) I was unable to mount a new parallel port zip drive using
2.0.34; b) at your suggestion, I substituted the Slackware 7.1 kernel that
has imm precompiled in; c) the solution works to the extent that I can now
mount the zip drive; d) my new problem is that eznet will no longer complete
the negotiation of a ppp connection.

The eznet transaction log shows that the connection gets as far as receiving
"accept" from my isp. The log stops at this point, and I assume that this
reflects the fact that my isp terminates the connection.

Possible problems include eznet looking for something in the 2.0.34 kernel
that isn't in 2.2.16, and the new kernel unsuccessfully trying to use a
version
of pppd which is newer than the one in BL1.

The quick responses are really appreciated,
Mark

bsd_comp and ppp_deflate are not necessary.

When you do lsmod, do you see slhc and ppp?

Can you hear it dial? Does your ISP answer?
Have a look in /var/eznet/transcript.0

Turn on the system log (execute "syslogd") before doing
ppp-on. Afterwards, check /var/log/messages for any
errors. For more debugging info, add the following line
to eznet.conf:
-----------
0 debug yes
-----------
The debugging output will show up in /var/log/messages.

Steven
