1. As for etymology, I consider the act היה HAYAH as a variant of חיה XAYAH. We discussed this here before.

2. Moses never mentions EHEYEH upon his return to Egypt, in fact, EHEYEH is never mentioned again.

3. In 5:1 Moses and his brother claim before Paroh that they are coming in the name of YHWH, which he, Paroh, disparages. 

4. In conclusion, Ex. 3:13-15 appears to be an enigmatic textual sidestep.
