1. You are right, except that I would put it slightly differently. I would say that corresponding to ANIY, 'I', there used to be a variant ATIY, that is preserved only as in attachment.

2. Now the question naturally arises as to what is the meaning of the "suffix" -AH in SHAMR-AH, 'she has guarded', and the "suffix" -U in SHAMR-U, 'they have guarded'?

3. I forgot to mention another word with root CB, namely, ECBA אצבע 'finger'.

It's not absurd to think that it can be analyzed as -t- plus -iY, from an-iY "I"
