Hello George and Yigal,

Regarding Greek Hierosolyma, there are some points to consider:
1) Identify of Jerusalem with Salem -- possibly an Anti-Samaritan
interpretation
2) Identification of Jerusalem with the Temple of Solomon (Solyma = Solomon).
On the second, see the quotation attributed to Eupolemus in the discussion
on a passage of Josephus' Antiquities Book 7:
http://books.google.com/books?id=ilEVu_k4a3cC&pg=PA222&dq=Eupolemus
that the name Jerusalem and the Greek HIEROSOLYMA are corruptions of the
of the name originally given by Solomon - hieron Solomonos.

Regarding an Aramaism, how come then the Aramaic form of Jerusalem is
ירושלם?
