Yigal,
I am Jewish, but I like to say I am not exactly Orthodox. On holidays, I
don't turn on and off electrical things and I don't write, etc. I am not
putting you down for your religious beliefs, but it helps me to see what
affects your understanding of certain quotes. For example, I would expect you
to interpret Isaiah 53 differently than a scholar who is also a Baptist
missionary. Also, I think you would see things differently than a Reform
Jewish person.
My biases are not as important because I do not have a PhD. This degree means
a lot to people interested in the Bible, so people with this degree should
tell their religious or anti-religious beliefs to people who read their books
and articles, and who listen to their lectures. I am not attacking scholars.
I am just saying they are human and have biases that matter more because
people look up to them and trust their opinions on the Bible.
Kenneth Greifer
