Gerry,
I think my translation is wrong because it probably says "ponder" and not "make smooth" and it probably says "she" for the verbs and not "you" like I thought. I am not sure what the quote says, but the word "lest" is in the wrong place for how it is translated in the KJV like you quoted.
Maybe it is something like "life is a path, lest she will consider it's wandering
(it's being unstable) (infinitive), her paths (her ways) she will not know."
Maybe it is a continuation about the woman whose steps are leading to death.

Kenneth:
Yes, the KJV’s exposition of the Hebrew Text does place the conjunction, “lest”, at the beginning of the verse instead of where it belongs. I referred to the KJV as the “closest” exposition to what the word-for-word translation reveals. The intensive, imperfect verb PLS is prefixed by the 2^nd person singular “you”; thus, “TPLS = *you constantly make smooth/level* figuratively *maintain*. The KJV of this verbal clause reads, “thou should ponder.” This is the father speaking to his son, essentially saying, “*you (son) should make smooth/level {maintain}*.
Proverbs 5:6 is where the father concludes his warning to his son regarding “a strange woman” by telling his son how to avoid M’GLTYH = “*her courses of action*”.
Insofar as the clause ‘RX = *path* of XYYM = *life*, this clause not so different from ‘C = *tree* of XYYM = *life*, and it is my opinion that both clauses should be rendered in like manner.
