Hi everyone,
I just signed on to b-Hebrew and I thought I'd introduce myself (I read
a comment somewhere that this is encouraged). By the way, if anyone can
point me to a b-Hebrew netiquette posting I'd appreciate it. There isn't
much on the home page and I'm not sure how to search the archives other
than via Google.
My name is Charles Grebe. I recently graduated from Briercrest College
and Seminary in Saskatchewan, Canada with an MA in Old Testament, and
I'm now working for the school as the director of distance learning.

Aside from my administrative duties (which seems to take up most of my
time! :) I instruct a first year Hebrew course for our distance
students. This course uses lectures that I developed a couple of years
ago which I host, together with some other Hebrew learning tools, at
http://www.animatedhebrew.com/ .
In my MA thesis I looked at the participant reference in 1 Samuel 9-31
in an attempt to demonstrate that a knowledge of biblical Hebrew PR
patterns can be an aide in biblical exegesis. I am not a linguist and I
wasn't trying to advance PR theory in this thesis. I just say that to
forewarn any DA linguists out there that might have that expectation. :)
In 2000, my family and I had the opportunity to spend the summer in
Israel. I took a 6 week biblical Hebrew course at Rothberg (Hebrew U of
Jerusalem) and then we spent 10 days trying to see the rest of Israel in
a whirlwind self-tour. It was a wonderful experience and it would be
great to return some day.
At the moment, my personal goal is to read as much biblical Hebrew as I
can. I have just finished reading Genesis 1-11 with a friend who is
writing his MA thesis on God's interior monologues. If you know of any
good discussion of this in the literature, please let me know and I'll
pass it on to him. I know he'd appreciate it.
Finally, both my wife and I are taking modern Hebrew with
HebrewOnline.com. We're in the middle of the second level (Level B) and
are enjoying it immensely.
Blessings,
Charles Grebe
