Joel, The American Heritage Dictionary also gives "shree" as an alternative pronunciation of "Sri."

__________________________________________
Joel, I just checked the Merriam-Webster
Geographical Names section of their dictionary,
and they give "(')shree" as an alternative
pronunciation for the Sri in Sri Lanka. So it is
correct to pronounce it that way, but not the most
common or correct way to say it. The double "e" is
really a single "e" with a horizontal line over
it, but the result is the same, for the dictionary
gives examples for pronouncing such an "e" as
"easy, mealy."

Harold Holmyard
